OK, I didn't expect this to be on the agenda quite yet, but what's your opinion on the hitting and molesting of bots in VR?

Watch this. You can skip to 0.47s for a start, the hitting is at about 2.05s, and the molesting is at 3.00s

I have nothing against consensual violence between partners, in fact I enjoy it. I go into many violent games and have no problems blowing away male or female or other opponents, or beating the crap out of them, and seeing the blood spatter in slow motion.

But this... this disturbs me.

It's a dull rainy Saturday, with time spent at craft fairs eating cake with lovely ladies and just generally relaxing, and I don't think I can be bothered doing anything useful.

This last week we finished our marathon watching of Battlestar Galactica. While it is a great series, and they do lots of great stuff throughout it, just like many Japanese anime it has very poorly constructed end. It's probably too late for most people but I'll spoiler-cut it in case )

Anyway, just felt I had to get that out of my system.

Have just finished reading this interview with Dr. Phillip Zimbaldo, the organizer of the infamous Stanford Prison Experiment. It made me think. As most of you know, I have a strong interest in both BDSM and LARP, and while the Stanford Prison Experiment was psychological research, it ended up being very much about both live role-playing and BDSM, though I don't think the psychologists have really followed through on those links. Of course, I haven't done a survey of the literature so I may be completely wrong about that. In fact, the LARPers amongst us would look at the Stanford Experiment and be horrified at the lack of understanding of role-playing safety displayed by those arranging the experiment.

Another rant on morality )

Hmm, a Saturday afternoon rant. Haven't had one of those in a while, been too busy working. I blame Gaius Baltar.

On Twitter things go by too fast, and unless you tweeted them yourself are often hard to find again. So I'm gonna store a couple of links I picked up today, and if anyone who didn;t find them on Twitter, finds them here, then so much the better.

Firstly, via @warrenellis (y'know, the Transmetropolitan guy) , is the lovely steam-punk jewelery and design work of Molly Freidrich. Scroll through her gallery, there's some lovely stuff in there. @warrenellis is also responsible for pointing me at this BDSM Dress-Up Jesus paper-doll.

On the other hand I found this sequence of Sascha Baron Cohen's "Queen's Guard" all by myself.

Then via @neilhimself is an article from China Mieville about things he would like to read that other people have to write:. Speaking of @neilhimself, his last blog post contains a beautiful piece of prose.

I am currently doing my yearly (or thereabouts) sort out of all the paper bills I have. I've kept some for far too long. Also doing washing of bed linen, and airing-out of mattress in advance of the arrival of my love next week.

Just got back form doing some shopping and bought some bakery goods to spoil myself. Steak & mushroom pie, chocolate donut. Nom. Now for a coffee, and back into the sorting.

So I went to see Richard Stallman this afternoon. Lots of people have told me he's crazy, but he seemed pretty reasonable to me, maybe he only sounds crazy to people who buy into the whole "intellectual property" lie.

Anyway, I picked up a pile of DefectiveByDesign.org, Gnu, & FSF stickers. One of them made me laugh! It's obvious what it's trying to say, however the image it uses says something completely different to me! Is it just me or.. ? )

This evenings Bones had another of those "let's have a murder at at a pervert convention to titillate our audience and make them feel superior" shows. This time it was a pony boy who was murdered, by his trainer, because "he wouldn't leave his wife for her".

There were two bits I did like. In one the FBI man grabbed a pony boy's throat gear (I don't know the technical term) and the guy looked him straight in the eye and said "I'm a high court judge so I would think very carefully about what you were planning to do, agent." Subby pony boys still don't take shit from people who aren't their owners!

The other was when the geeky tech guy was demonstrating how the victim was bound, positioned one of the other investigators hands in front of her, and expertly trussed them together while talking CSI talk. The fun bit being he obviously knew what he was doing given the speed of the tie and the fact that he did it while looking only at face of the person he was tying. Of course, as she was also concentrating on their train of thought she didn't realize until he'd finished that she was bound and needed to be untied.

But there was a whole pile of completely unnecessary moralizing from FBI man about how "normal" sex was so much more spiritual at the end. At least the title character, Bones, said "How do you know it's crappy?" when he said something about "these poor people doing all this just to have crappy sex".

Bonus points for anyone who can pick why the title. :)

So, I now have the timetable for the Capital Fetish Extravaganza this Satyrday.

I'm gonna be picking up the bus and the heavy equipment at 2.30pm, and we'll be heading in to set up the TES area, and do other preparation stuff. Hopefully most of that will be done the evening, and then it will be out to dinner and to get changed, before needing to be back on site by 9.30pm for the public start at 10.00pm. Stage shows start at 11.30 pm, and finish at 1.55 am, and then the party continues till 6.00am.

I think, given my lack of thinking about costuming and that I'll be doing staff stuff, I won't be wearing anything fancy.

But I do need to start thinking about a costume for Kapcon LARP, Sanctuary, it seems I am going to need something rather piratical, I wonder if my character should be modelled on Captain Kennit... Anyway I suspect I shall have to procure an appropriate pair of soft leather boots

I ache, and I find it easy to sit and stare at the ceiling watching the jitter of my eyeballs.

Satyr-day, got a few things done, like garden rubbish into bin, a washing load, listed old and duplicate magazines on TradeMe, you know, the usual weekend crap. teases :)

Found out via the Police Alerts email list there had been a bomb scare at Hutt Hospital, and a five car nose-to-tail near Manguaraki

Satyr-evening, went and picked up a car-load of people and delivered them to the Riverbound play party. It was the biggest one of these events I've been to, and, according to the organizers the first time they've actually had to restrict attendance due to the size of the venue.

There were some nice costumes, including Nimue's purple satin-look full length dress with a zip running all the way down the front and the eyelet-popping "naughty nurse". There was a demonstration and some training in the use of the long tail which had cracks echoing around the valley on the still night air. A certain Ed, who seems to turn up everywhere I go, turned up and we discussed theatrical and musical performance for a while. There were surprise visitors from Christchurch, and I got to place a couple of Collar-Me identities with faces. I didn't play with anyone, seeing as almost everyone was paired up, which I had expected, but it was a great social evening. I even got a few suggestions for Naughty Licks

It sounds like the Fetish Ball at SubNine is going to be interesting. We were told there was someone saying there could be no "live penises" used in the stage shows, which brought the obvious response "So dead ones are OK then?". It seems tempting to arrive with a necklace of severed members, my large (plastic) machete, 'Nam vintage combat dress, and a t-shirt reading "'Ears' is a Euphemism"

We wound up just short of midnite and I dropped people home, and then went on to Curve to catch JetPilot, and COSM at Weird Pscience. All the usual shiny people were there, and psi-hoops, psi-pois, many beakers and pieces of equipment spilling dry ice, and various crazy people in lab coats, white overalls, goggles, and multi-coloured accessories provided a great spectacle. At least one person looked so different I almost didn't recognize them, and there were some odd dance styles which added to the fun.

I threw my body around in an imitation of dancing for a couple of hours, jacked up on a can of RB, and then decided to head home. On the way home I was asked to count to ten by a cop in Petone. I thought I'd left relatively early (and compared to the hard corps, I did) but after getting home, and the effect of the daylight saving change, I finally ended up falling asleep at about quarter to five.

Woke up with left-over vibe in my brain from the sonic assault of a few hours earlier, and the tingle all over my skin that informs me I'm going to have some sore muscles in a few hours. I really should do a warm-up routine before dancing. I hopefully sweated off some fat though.

Today I am going vege out and maybe start watching the first season of BattleStar Galactica.

Last night [livejournal.com profile] seraphs_folly and I were discussing the "glamorous Bavarian" who wants marriage to be automatically legally ended after seven years. (that's the link to the original Reuters report I mentioned last, luv)

It gives me a nice feeling to report that The Pirate Bay are now able to utilize legal remedies against the media companies who were paying to have their trackers attacked by "professional hackers". Hmm, I wonder if I can get my company to change my job title to "professional hacker" ?

Finally, whilst doing some research on different shinju techiques, I ran across Tammad Rimilia's web site. At first I thought here's someone whose cool enough to avoid flash technology and unnecessary graphics and keep the site simple and clean, then I realized he'd died seven years ago. The site has been kept operational by friends since. Click on the understated "over 21" link for the goodies. There's some good practical demonstrations of rope work, and lots of other stuff for the kinky, including a little cosplay.

I will warn people that if you're worried by things like pictures of naked men tied to trees, that you should probably be careful browsing the site or not do so at all. On the other hand, saying that will probably make certain people go there immediately!

[livejournal.com profile] danjite did it, and I'm just such a follower :)

Do I have an inclination for BDSM? )

This evening I am off to Christchurch to spend five days, including my 45th Birthday, with my beloved [livejournal.com profile] seraphs_folly, and also to attend Southern Exposure, and the famous Christchurch Fetish Ball.

I'm hoping to be opened to some new experiences over this period, meet some interesting people, and to have a lot of fun, as well as a lot of snuggling!

I have a new pair of leather pants. If the costume design committee (i.e.: [livejournal.com profile] seraphs_folly ) approves of them, this will be the first time I've worn leather pants in public since I used to hug tightly to the back of my room-mate RF on his bike when I was in RNZAF Woodbourne. And unlike then, when I was wearing RF's cast-offs, these are new! Mmmm! I love the yummy smell of new leather!

Before I go, some quick reviews! )
