Down at the Sunset Grill
Mar. 1st, 2006 12:52 pmI'm not complaining, but talking till 1.30 am or thereabouts three nights in a row makes Frank a tired panda.
The spiders were still there this morning. Here's a blurry photo of the biggest
It's a blurry photo, 'coz I couldn't hold the camera steady and Mr. Spider has retreated to the top of the wall over the entrance hall, which is much higher than normal wall so is on max magnification.
Note the interesting "artifact" on it's back. I think it's caused by the flash reflecting of it's abdomen, otherwise Mr. Spider may be working with the CIA.
As I stepped out of the a shower today, another spider was web swinging from the ceiling in the middle of the bathroom at about chest level (probably to avoid the steam).

Date: 2006-03-01 12:48 am (UTC)There's also Avondale spiders in Auckland which are large. If it really does look like a huntsman, it may be worth contacting the Authorities (tm) to come and have a look at it.
(or you could trap it and take it to see them)

Date: 2006-03-01 01:16 am (UTC)We really don't want those here! Awful things if mostly harmless. Gold and I shared space with a large one for ages... in Aussie they're considered quite good to have about because they eat other more dangerous spiders. Here ....well, I'd really rather do without in the absence of live threatening reasons not to. Ours was quite aggressive and... er... interactive. It used to take up residence on golds keyboard with its legs raised up threatening him and in his boots.
Ive seen some grow well beyond the hand size quoted in the article. Friends call them dinner plate for good reason.

How are you enjoying Wellington then (other than the spiders) ?

Date: 2006-03-09 01:13 am (UTC)Wellington is good. Learning my way around and getting a sense of where everything is. And getting fit from walking everywhere, thankfully everything is rather central.
