Don't think blogging counts? Read this

Thing is, most people fill their blogs with a heap of stuff relevant only to themselves, there are quite few who are dedicated to a particular issue. Surely it's those dedicated-topic blogs which are read by a wider audience than the blogger's friends? Like Idiot's blog, for example.

Oh definitely, it's only the "A-list" of dedidcated blogers that will have a big effect, but really the issue is that those "A-list" bloggers get replicated and linked to by all the rest, and so the communication paths are faster and more widespread than before.

I've noticed that even our national news media is following the blog trends, something will spread on the blognet, and then get picked up by TV1 news the next day, sometimes even quicker.

As well as blogging communities where many users post.
I learn about a lot of new discoveries in Classics from classics communities for instance. Ditto for history.
Also, the Wellington community and Dunedin community often have local news as it happens.

Community blogs are the best. They are on topic and actually interesting at times.

The reason that I didn't name the pharmacy I had my particular run-in with recently is because I have some concerns about the influence of blogging. The truth is that, generally speaking, I like that store and their staff. So I didn't want my experience of one new staff member result in others not visiting their store.

It's also the reason I won't name where I work for, either... because things WILL get back to someone who I didn't expect would hear about it.
