While all the human stuff goes on, my Shady lady sleeps in her litter-box. She sleeps there because she needs to use it a lot. She doesn't move anymore, but she is still alive, and aware.

She prrts when I stroke her. But she doesn't eat. The three weeks of antibiotics helped her, and she was more active on that, but now I think she is slipping away.

She has always been an afterthought, the runt of the litter, left behind when the rest of the litter was moved... poor girl.

Just remember, she had a good life with you and was loved. Many other cats don't get it so easy. She was a lucky cat.

Wah, losing a loved pet is really sad.

Before we adopted the Maggot, we had another little grey cat called Jack. He was my cat ever since I was born, I was his absolute best friend. He finally went from old age. We got the 'mobile vet' to come around and give him an injection after he'd been suffering a few days from his poor old kidneys giving up on him. He didn't even have to leave his favourite spot on a cushion in front of the heater.

She doesn't seem to be in pain, she's just lyiing silent and still, only moving ears and eyes.

I don't know whether I should just let her lay there and hope she passes while she sleeps, or take her to the vet to end it. I don't know if we have a "mobile" vet round here.

Poor Shady, she's a real battler. Trentham (Camp Street, beside the Post Shop) would be your closest vet option - but closed in weekends.

Ngauranga Gorge is the Wellington area's after-hours location during weekends, but they don't do callouts and they charge excessively for their service.

My cat died last year. We had had her since I was 4. I miss her a lot...
