Retail Therapy
Aug. 22nd, 2005 01:48 pmThe shoes I was wearing to work this morning were loosing their soles so bad that the ends of my trousers sometimes got caught between the sole and the shoe. I mentioned while walking to work that I needed to get new shoes and
evie_fae pointed out that I had been saying that for weeks, (much like I keep saying I need to get a hair cut), and why didn't I just go out at lunch time and buy some?
Thing is I put things like that off. I never like spending money on boring mundane things like work shoes. I was saying to myself "one day I'll get into The Warehouse and find some cheap ones". And I don't normally go out at lunchtime. And I have no money at this time of the week, especially not for shoes.
And then I remembered that I now had a credit card which wasn't maxed out. I could just go and buy things without checking with Ele whether there was enough credit or money available first! I was free to buy what I wanted when I needed it!
So I went out and the first real shoe store I found was Hannahs. Thinking "Ah Hanna", and remembering the wonderful transvestite from Tokyo Godfathers I went in. A lovely and very helpful petite blonde girl served me. They didn't have any of the first couple of shoes I tried in my size. 8 must be a popular size. But the girl convinced me to try a very nice pair of Florsheim, similar to these.
They fitted perfectly and comfortably right off the bat I'm not used to that.
When she said Florsheim, I was thinking, uh oh, I don't know if I can justify spending that much on a pair of shoes, but the price wasn't significantly higher than the other pairs I was trying on, unlike some Florsheim's I'd seen in the $300 range these were about $140.
The assistant also took my old, broken shoes and disposed of them for me, so like a visit to a tyre-servicing centre I walked out on my new shoes!
So, for the first time, I have gone out and bought a new pair of new, good quality, shoes without them being on sale, and without feeling worried or embarrassed at the price. It's a very freeing experience for someone like me, who has always in the past worried about what something cost.
Then I popped down to Gamesman, as I was looking for a copy of Boogie-Pop Phantom 3 to complete the series, as I'd bought the other three at $10 each in Whitcoulls. Gamesman had disks 4 and 3, exactly the one I needed for $9.95! Score! The entire series for $what it would have cost to buy one in Whitcoulls before they put them on sale!!
But Gamesman had other stuff... and I was seduced into spending more money, all at $9.85 a disk, ah the dangers of credit. I must remember to pay this all off on Thursday and not spend more on frivolity!
Then I came back to work, and there was little in the way of food left in the canteen, but they did have a cranberry, chicken and brie panini....mmmmm! Followed by a double chocolate muffin.
This is the life!
Must remember not to do it every day, or I'll get into trouble very quickly!

Date: 2005-08-22 03:37 am (UTC)But what I really want to know is how do you get the petite blonde to serve you when it is always some seedy old (but also helpful) guy who serves me? I suspect the pretty ones see me coming and go hide.
