The shoes I was wearing to work this morning were loosing their soles so bad that the ends of my trousers sometimes got caught between the sole and the shoe. I mentioned while walking to work that I needed to get new shoes and [livejournal.com profile] evie_fae pointed out that I had been saying that for weeks, (much like I keep saying I need to get a hair cut), and why didn't I just go out at lunch time and buy some?

Thing is I put things like that off. I never like spending money on boring mundane things like work shoes. I was saying to myself "one day I'll get into The Warehouse and find some cheap ones". And I don't normally go out at lunchtime. And I have no money at this time of the week, especially not for shoes.

And then I remembered that I now had a credit card which wasn't maxed out. I could just go and buy things without checking with Ele whether there was enough credit or money available first! I was free to buy what I wanted when I needed it!

So I went out and the first real shoe store I found was Hannahs. Thinking "Ah Hanna", and remembering the wonderful transvestite from Tokyo Godfathers I went in. A lovely and very helpful petite blonde girl served me. They didn't have any of the first couple of shoes I tried in my size. 8 must be a popular size. But the girl convinced me to try a very nice pair of Florsheim, similar to these.

They fitted perfectly and comfortably right off the bat I'm not used to that.

When she said Florsheim, I was thinking, uh oh, I don't know if I can justify spending that much on a pair of shoes, but the price wasn't significantly higher than the other pairs I was trying on, unlike some Florsheim's I'd seen in the $300 range these were about $140.

The assistant also took my old, broken shoes and disposed of them for me, so like a visit to a tyre-servicing centre I walked out on my new shoes!

So, for the first time, I have gone out and bought a new pair of new, good quality, shoes without them being on sale, and without feeling worried or embarrassed at the price. It's a very freeing experience for someone like me, who has always in the past worried about what something cost.

Then I popped down to Gamesman, as I was looking for a copy of Boogie-Pop Phantom 3 to complete the series, as I'd bought the other three at $10 each in Whitcoulls. Gamesman had disks 4 and 3, exactly the one I needed for $9.95! Score! The entire series for $what it would have cost to buy one in Whitcoulls before they put them on sale!!

But Gamesman had other stuff... and I was seduced into spending more money, all at $9.85 a disk, ah the dangers of credit. I must remember to pay this all off on Thursday and not spend more on frivolity!

Then I came back to work, and there was little in the way of food left in the canteen, but they did have a cranberry, chicken and brie panini....mmmmm! Followed by a double chocolate muffin.

This is the life!

Must remember not to do it every day, or I'll get into trouble very quickly!

Hanna isn't a transvestite, he is just a gay crossdresser, but he is totally wonderful. I love the way he walks around and occasionally drops into haiku.

Tokyo Godfathers rules, best Christmas movie ever.

Chicken, cranberry and brie paninis are good.

...you mean you don't have the credit card paid off automatically by direct debit at the end of the month?

No, I don't. I don't even have a PIN on it yet.
I'll see how I go!

I bought a cheap pair of shoes from the Wharehouse a while back. Within a few months, the heel of one had blown out - the sides just collapsed. The damn things never were comfortable anyway. Then. like you, bought a pair of "moderately priced" Florsheims from Hannahs. No regrets so far.

But what I really want to know is how do you get the petite blonde to serve you when it is always some seedy old (but also helpful) guy who serves me? I suspect the pretty ones see me coming and go hide.

Cool, I'm glad my impression of Hannah;s and the shoes has been corroborated.

And about the blonde, well y'see, girls just naturally want to serve me! Just ask them!

Hah! Told you so! *does the Evie-is-always-right dance* I'm glad you bought good shoes, and not more crap from The Warehouse. ^__^

Although, number 1 shoe warehouse shoes don't tend to last that long either and I know someone who bought 3 pairs of shoes from there not long ago...

I still love them because of the pretty.

The guys shoes from number 1 shoe warehouse are not as impressive and aren't as cheap either. Unfortunately there seems to be this rule that guys can't have cool clothes and shoes. I suspect that is possibly a god thing otherwise I would spend as much on clothes and shoes as Evie and we would be flat broke.

Yes, it's terrible that us guys don't get such cool shoes and stuff! We used to get it back in the 1700's!

But those are silly fun shoes that won't be worn too much, and by the time they're worn out they'll be unfashionable anyway. I paid $150 for my Cowgirl boots that I wear every day. ^__^

Cheap and cheerful has it's place. It's just no good for something you're going to wear every day. Which is what I've been telling Frank. ^__^

Dammit, I wanted Boogiepop Phantom! Gamesman had 2-4, but without 1 I felt there wasn't much point.

Shame, I could have bought an extra copy of BPP 1 when I got mine. I'll check Gamesman and Whitcoulls here again tomorrow for 1 and let you know if you like !

Thanks, but don't worry about it. It was really just a whim, and I should be saving my money anyway :P

My $8 shoes from the Warehouse have done impressive service, from the rigours of travelling America, Egypt and Singapore in 2004 to occupational overuse in the office and streets of Wellington ever since. Now they're stuffed, all my other shoes are equally stuffed, and I'm too poor to get new ones for a little while yet. Wah!

The ones the petite blonde disposed of for me today were $10 Warehouse shoes too, but they were never very comfortable and have been shot for weeks.

I also cannot afford new shews yet. I just have a credit card!
