Had plans to do stuff tonight. Those plans did not eventuate.

[livejournal.com profile] panda_pitt cooked up some ramen noodles with vegetables and soy sauce. Very filling.

Spent the evening exchanging messages with [livejournal.com profile] seraphs_folly and watching music and CSI re-runs.

Just went out and had a clove while looking at the stars

Was reminded again of Jefferson Starship's Have You Seen the Stars Tonight?

Saw a falling star blaze briefly above the black trees.

It was a lovely night last night, I saw the stars while we were driving on the motorway.

Mostly in the city just the planets show up. But on Monday night heading to the car there was one so incredibly bright it looked bigger than it should be.

That is something I miss about living in the country - with no streetlights and no near neighbours if we turned off the houselights the sky looked almost misty with stars.

We get the same effect out our way because most of the houses are hidden by trees.

I like staring at them and imagining the distances involved, feeling small, but in a good way.

Hi Frank,

This is completely random, but someone on the Diatribe forum asked about LARPs running in Wellington (http://www.diatribe.co.nz/viewtopic.php?t=144). I mentioned that you were involved in a game called "Victorian Nights" but didn't know much about it and someone else asked if you'd like to write it up on the forum. So would you be interested in writing it up on the forum?

Steph

I suspect it would be better to ask Jarrat if he wants to have people know more about it. It may also be not the sort of thing they want to know about on that forum anyway, as it's not really open to new players, as in one would have to be specifically invited by Jarrrat to be involved.

The page you linked to from Diatribe links to my IC diary, [livejournal.com profile] sebastian_beau which might give people an idea of the way the game goes.

I'll make a similar comment on the forum.

Victorian Nights isn't actually a LARP when you consider the general use of the term, or at least what I perceive to be the general use.
Where LARPS are generally big social gatherings where players stay in characters most of the evening chatting with other in character players, Victorian Nights is more like a traditional roleplaying game with a small number of people. The only existing system for the game is that the scenes are run using live roleplay. Prop, space, movement and expression are all important parts of portraying ones character, as they would be in a big social LARP, but not in a traditional table top game. Essentially however this si just a standard roleplaying game with a few friends, so it isn't really something one can join. i.e. Unlike a big social LARP it isn't actually a club.
If I get the chance I might write up some stuff about it just to share my experience of running such a game.
As for LARPS around Wellington, great question. I have been considering running a big Vampire game with a close knit coterie system and 3-4 scenes per evening, each involving 1 or 2 cotories with all other players playing random or ongoing NPCs. The difficultly obviously is time and getting something off the ground. I certainly have the ideas for what I want to do and how I want to run it, but it is quite a big commitment, even it it only ran bi monthly instead of monthly.
Anyway enough blathering.

From what you say about using props, space and movement, it counts as LARP, just in a different format to the big freeform games or the big live combat games. The idea of cutting it up into defined scenes is interesting and it would be cool just to see how it works. I know your game is closed, but if you ever find yourself looking for a new player, or even a guest NPC, I'd be interested.
