Tried to take more pictures of Adelaide on Friday night. Found out it's harder than it looks, I don't think I can hold the camera still long enough. I do know a lot more about my camera now though.

Finished doing that, and had a clove. While doing that and watching the night life, including a traffic cop ticketing a couple of youths, I heard a clip-clopping. "Sounds like either a very loud pair of heels, or a horse" I thought. "Actually, no, it's more like a herd.." and then I saw two mounted policemen ride past. Large horses, one was blonde.

They rode down to where the night-clubs Eden and Heaven were, and I lost them. Watched some Boogiepop Phantom. went to bed.

Slept in on Saturday morning, checked out of the hotel and went for a wander. Wandered down to the river, they have a nice river front and quite a well put together civic area. Found some good shops, Collectible Chaos, a place of action figures and cards, mainly TV and film SF. Ridiculous prices, they must be idiots in Adelaide if they're willing to pay those prices for things that can be ordered more cheaply direct. Would you pay AUD $800 for a replica Predator weapon?

Also found a very nice second-hand book store, but again prices were high. AUD $100 for an unsigned hard-back copy of William Burroughs' Wild Boys? Then again I was also surprised at the prices people were paying at auction for crappy 1960's plastic dinnerware. The sort of kitsch that you'd see in a truck-stop diner back then, being praised as high art by some Aussie T.V.host!

Moved on and found a good gaming shop, and the jewel of my visit, an anime/manga store run by a cute Japanese girl wearing a frilly shirt and checked skirt. It was a lovely place with lots of great stock, including a huge collection of CD's, Gundam Seed, Wolf's Rain, X, Chobits, etc! Lots of huge Gundam models, Clamp artbooks, Shirow stuff, piles of gashapon, etc. If they'd been able to take AmEx I'd be a lot poorer now!

Still, if I'm invited back to Adelaide I'll know where to go to spend my dough!

Flew out of Adelaide with no troubles, got to Sydney and got transferred to the International via a huge double-lane highway that was completely within the security perimeter! and was so large and long that it had a bloomin' speed camera on it! Only used by airport service personal and it's dual lane and needs a speed camera!

Then I had to wait for the plane to Wellington. It was about an hour late, possibly due to fog. And then they were worried we weren't going to make it also because of the fog. In fact three planes from Aussie came in at about the same time, just after midnight, our's from Sydney and one each from Melbourne and Brisbane.

Stayed up till 3.00 am chatting on the phone with [livejournal.com profile] seraphs_folly. Got up late for me, and decided I needed to defrost and clean the fridge before shopping, so finished shopping around 5pm.

Now need to put together all my receipts for claiming back, all the stuff I need for the Indian visa and get the rest of the stuff unpacked.

It was a shame that I missed out on two great sounding parties, [livejournal.com profile] amphigori's and [livejournal.com profile] debzter & Sam's. Still, at least this way I didn't have to choose between them!

:) Where Gold and I lived in Glebe was right by the police station so the mounted cops used to come by all the time to talk to their buddies and get their mounts some water. I used to love it. I'd sit up in our bedroom balcony and just stare cos it seemed so out of place - horses in the middle of Sydney! Suddenly you felt less surrounded by concrete jungle...

AUD $100 for an unsigned hard-back copy of William Burroughs' Wild Boys?

Hmm... That is a 'little' high, even for a first edition of such a fine book.

Probably will be picked up by a fanatical William Burroghs/Duran Duran fan.
