All lives are lies. If I choose the lie that makes me most happy does that make me any less than if I chose the lie that I believe most true?

Edit: It seems that this has worried some people. I probably shouldn't have posted it publicly as I posted it mainly to record something which I thought sounded like a good line, coming out of thoughts caused by reading Robin Hobb's Royal Assassin on the train.

Please rest assured that I'm not feeling down, or putting this forward as any sort of serious way to approach life!

All lives are lies.

That in itself is a self-justifying lie. If you need a philosophical justification for living in a reality tunnel insulated from what Homer Simpson would call "stupid reality", fair enough, but please don't be casting judgement on other people's choices.

Well, I could argue, but admittedly it was a thought in more of a poetical vein than a philosophical one, the philosophy tag is probably not appropriate.

You'd better ease up on that fancy book-larnin', Frank. It'll only get you into trouble...

Yes, thanks! I'm quite happy, I just had that thought come to me and wanted to record it, more of a question posed to myself than anything else.

The problem with good lines is that so many of them are complete bollocks :-).

Let's just clock it up to Compulsive Deep Thought #23 for the day.
I actually liked the statement.

All lives are Lies

Simple. Elegant. Provocative.

I live a lie, in one sense of all the parallel paths and coexistent realities I could have chosen. Why? Because, when I was little I'd always say I'd be an archeologist when I grew up. Now, it's possible I haven't grown up yet; this is because I am not an archeologist (but still feel inspired enough about all sorts of crap to be one). But the only person I've really lied to is myself, because I haven't followed that little boy's dream closely enough.

I don't see how anyone could have taken your post the wrong way!
