Painting, Wallpapering, and Maintenance
Jan. 11th, 2005 09:10 amJust noticed that I'd gone and queued the last few entries, rather than actually posting them. It's a useful feature, allows you write when off line, but not when you forget that you have done so and have the date set wrong.
So anyone who was hanging out for my pearls of wisdom, you just got a glut! Don't gorge yourself!
Anyway last entry was Sunday. Been busy since. I have actually done some physical labor for a change, using the steamer to remove wallpaper from the hallway.
Ele is booked in for a thousand-mile service, a valve grind and reboring at the Boulcott Clinic on Friday. I wanted to put new Weber's and nitrous injection on her, but the mechanic says that might be too much stress for such an old chassis.
(Seriously, Ele's having an exploratory for what we hope is something like kidney stones.)
And i have actually committed to painting something! Two things in fact. The first, which was a ploy on my part, because I know I'll never use it for anything and thus I convinced myself it didn't matter if I fucked it up, was a Warzone Clan McGuire Wolfsbane Commando.
I base coated in commando green, washed with ork flesh wash, and hilighted with commando, folowed by some cam patches of catachan. Surprisingly effective for such a quick scheme. Then I played with the gun, as I wanted to figure out a way to do do a nice no-metal gun , and this figure has a very prominent gun!
Not happy with it yet though. First I based in shadow grey and then washed with black ink. Got too much black ink on. Highlighted again in shadow grey. Too grey. washed with black. Too black Need more experimentation, probably will have to blend some colours to get the look I want.
The second, which I started because I was itching to see if I could do some NMM gold on it, was a Terminator captain, which I have slightly modified by adding a sight to his heavy bolter and am painting in DeathWing colours, to be the leader of my proposed "Lost Angels" army.
The NMM looks sort of OK on the leg eagle, but looks like it still needs something. I did it by base coating with bubonic brown, washing with snakebite, highlighting again in bubonic, with a final highlight of sunurst yellow. Bubonic is probably not quite the right color.
I did the main body as a base coat of bone followed by a flesh wash, re-painting in bone, and I'll follow that up with a white highlight. Is relatively nice even without the additional white highlights, and am tempted to leave it at that, but I think it will need the white for more contrast on the gold.
As usual, neither of them is finished yet, but the Wolfsbane commando is close, and I've got the basic work done on the terminator captain. I'll put pictures up when I am done.
