A bit of a full-on and effective weekend even though I didn't really go anywhere or do anything.
Saturday morning got a wee bit of tidying done before the internet broke. This of course through me off and meant I didn't get anything else done until my ex-wife, E, and youngest son, B, turned up to deliver presents to
ferrouswheel. We picked up bakery goods for lunch when we picked up
panda_pitt from the station, so the entire family was there for lunch and the afternoon.
There was general merriment and discussion as it isn't often we get all six of us together. I took advantage of the presence of everybody to sort through a bunch of stuff and get people to say whether they wanted it or not, and managed to fill up E's car with stuff to take away. The combination of yesterday's work, and the van-full of used electronics a guy paid me $10 for the previous week meant the downstairs room was looking clearer than it has for ages. E took off to see her dad for a bit, and I got into seriously trying to fix the interwebs.
In the morning the Telstra line said they had had "power problems" and most of Christchurch and Wellington were without internet TV. As far as I could tell there was nothing wrong with the WAN connection, it was just that their DNSs had disappeared. So by the afternoon they claimed there was no longer anything wrong with their netwirk, but I still couldn't find their DNSs, so I I spent many minutes waiting for tech support and they predictably took me through all the things I'd already tried, and refused to take any notice of what I told them.
I asked them what the IP addresses of their DNSs were, and was given a primary and secondary completely different from the either of the last two pairs I'd been given, but this had no affect on my ability to find domains. In the end, nothing they suggested worked, though we did discover that when my computer was directly connected to the cable modem, I was getting no ARP entries. He claimed this meant my computer was faulty, even though I'd already told him I had no trouble at all accessing servers on my internal network, showing he didn't understand what ARP was, or what the lack of any ARP entries usually means. He finally suggested it could be a cable. I let him go and tried that, but no. In the end I swapped the modem from the digital TV into the internet connection, and that worked. Interestingly, the digital TV still worked fine too... ah, well, I had internet back, but not in time to order Hell's Pizza for the family, which I had to order by phone! Oh, the hardship!
After Hell, the entire family, including
wasup_bro and his girlfriend, but excluding me, piled into E's car and she dropped them all into town before heading home. This left me all alone at home on a Saturday night. Got a brief note from
seraphs_folly, heading off to bed in preparation for her big day on Sunday with her sis. Yes. All alone. Saturday night. What would a poor boy do? Well in the end I stayed up to the wee earlies playing with Alyx. She's hot, got a great sense of humour, is obviously smitten by me, and can sure handle a shotgun! What could be better than blowing away zombies and bugs and fascists with a hot girl who's sweet on you? (in case anyone hasn't guessed yet I played HalfLife Two : Episode One all night)
Sunday I slept in, getting just in time to head off to pick up the TES gear which needed a place to be stored. After one driver and van failing to show I headed home with a carload, followed shortly by T, while G waited. In the end,
ehintz came to the rescue. I now have in my basement a frame, a cage, and a St Andrew's cross, as well as two massage tables and a number of other "things". Hmm, the possibilities... :)
Just had lunch for dinner, gonna make a coffee and then back for another sweaty time with Alyx I think!

Just in time for Easter even! Anyone up for a "passion play"? :)
