Passing things on

Yesterday I received a surprise package from cha0sslave, who has fled the country under an assumed name to seek fortune and fame in overseas wastelands. He kindly sent over some stuff he was no longer needing (primarily Games Workshop related items), and amongst this unexpected bounty there was a, or should I say, the, Dexy's Midnight Runners CD. It so happens I already have one of these, so I'm flicking it on to whomever wants it, though preference will be given to people who actually knew the lad!

While I'm giving stuff away, does anyone want a couple of shoe-boxes of 3.5" floppies?

Ugh. Tell me, why do you still maintain contact with a self-confessed woman-hater like Damon? It really confuses me.

Because he's a good person, who is always willing to help out, and whom I'd be happy to have at my back in a dangerous situation.

I don't agree with him on all issues, but then I have had closer associations with people whom I disagree with more, such as fundamentalist Christians.

Basically, one can cannot be considered tolerant or open-minded if one only associates with those one agrees with, and doing that will make one insular and narrow-minded, distorting one's view of the world. As the song says "Don't surround yourself with yourself"

I see what you're saying but surely there's a limit to that tolerance. I'm presuming you would not maintain a friendship with a neo-nazi. The question is do Damon's views on gender relations fall into that 'bridge too far' area. For me and many others they do. For you they don't, seen as how you call him a 'good person'. That's fine, but I mostly asked because I know you are a very feminist person yourself and I wondered if you were actually aware of Damon's misogyny. Seems you are, so it's your loss.

Hmmm - isn't an anonymous post making an accusation kinda cowardly, huh?

Not that I'm defending the guy at all, but if you're gonna label someone a misogynist, give supporting evidence - and at least use your own name - it makes you look like a bitter booty-call, if you post anonymously.

The whole anonymity thing smacks of intellectual dishonesty.
