Stuff In My head
Aug. 22nd, 2005 09:51 amFirstly, I realized I hadn't posted about last Thursday's animé watching with
jarratt_gray and friends. And I wanted to!
We watched Tokyo Godfathers. It sounds like some sort of crime movie, and sure, there are Yakuza involved, but only peripherally. In fact, it is an animé Christmas movie set amongst Tokyo's homeless, in a style similar to all those Hollywood or English Christmas movies like Love Actually only grittier and consequently when the humour comes it's funnier. It's a feel good movie that isn't afraid to tackle subjects that are almost taboo in Japan, the homeless and those with AIDS.
This is the movie you want to show people who think animé is all about short-skirted school girls and mecha. It could have easily been made as a live action movie, that it is animé is completely irrelevant to the fact that it is a great little movie. I'd recommend it as something the Princess' movie watchers should see, even if they don't normally do animé.
I won't say anymore so it doesn't ruin your enjoyment of the movie, but it is up there with the best of "serious" animé.
I had a nightmare last night. It is so easy to psychoanalyse I wont bother posting much detail. Suffice it to say it involved me slowly finding out my wife was really some sort of alien preying mantis creature only pretending to be a human. The only memorable visual was when the insectile legs started sprouting from her torso, as I watched her stand naked in front of a mirror.
Saw a couple of memorable music videos I hadn't seen before over the weekend while cleaning.
The first was by Tasmin Archer and I don't know the title, but it involved them making her look absolutely terrible in a crying, smeared way, and rolling around an institutional room in a hospital smock with a limp teddy bear. It's not often an artist is shown looking terrible in a vid.
The other was the video for the White Stripes Blue Orchid which has equine bestiality in it. From one scene of a woman in white reaching under a white stallion as if she was milking it to a later scene of the same woman arching her back on the floor underneath the stallion. Nothing explicit mind, but still equine bestiality on daytime TV. What's the world "coming" to?
Finally have to agree with
jessikast, the Season 5 finale of CSI (written and directed by Tarantino) was great television!

Date: 2005-08-22 05:52 am (UTC)People who don't even give anime a chance annoy me, especially when they act like they know what it's all about and that all it's about is highschool girls and fanservice and giant robots. I feel like shaking them. So basically it's their ignorance that annoys me, not the fact they don't like anime. But hey.
Actually, I'm just reminded of a time I was watching Azumanga and some of these anime-ignorant friends were present. One of them was like, "This is so boring, it's just about their daily lives," and
And Tokyo Godfathers is on my want to watch list :)

Date: 2005-08-22 10:33 am (UTC)The CSI Miami teaser is pretty lame though. "One of these CSI's won't make it alive". If you look at the back of any stagecoach bus carrying the ad it's easy to figure out who - the guy who isn't pictured. or you could look it up online like I did.
