Thursday was pretty full-on,, and today I feel completely wasted. Even three cups of coffee with my normal overload of sugar couldn't jump start me this morning, I complained to my colleagues I needed some cocaine. Luckily I can still actually work when a zombie, due to both a lot of practice, and that my zombie state is probably equivalent to most people's normal alert state. (I'm also very modest.)

Thursday started with having to run for the train, as it actually arrived on time for a change, rather than it's normal five-to-fifteen minutes late. I blobbed and slept a bit more. When I got to work I had to rush into an emergency international phone call to deal with a supposed crisis in the UK. As is often the case, all they really needed was some reassurance, so it wasn't actually a crisis, but it did at least wake me up.

From there I had meetings in which I had to be hard with people who were trying to short-cut things in a bad way. Agile development, for instance does not mean we develop something with no real requirements, and no, I'm not going to give a meaningful estimate when the requirements are so vague. I'm not interested in being told that I'm being "challenged" to come up with a solution to a problem with no requirements that has a delivery at the end of next month, unless the person involved likes the idea of me invoking Klingon software development practices and challenging them to a bat'leth contest.

Lunch time was spent at Katipo with Tarko, boy Reagan, & Mat, geeking over Ars, as well as picking up a ticket for the fourteen million I'm going to win on Saturday. The afternoon went quickly in research into Unix tools so I could prove my contention that all that needed doing on that Klingon software project could be done with standard Unix and FOSS software, making it completely unnecessary to purchase expensive proprietary software.

In the afternoon I walked back to the station to pick up some Tau, and then up to Fidel's for a Tuatara and some laughs with the normal Friday crowd. After an hour there it was down to JJ's where I "snubbed" BBC crew, and Corwyn examined the covenant's charter with Bellare & Haephestus. Once satisfied we headed on out to the Massey memorial, stopping briefly to pick up a loaf of bread, a bottle of wine, and thou cheese. And muffins! I'll try and capture Corwyn's experiences later in a separate post.

The Memorial was magic, glowing white in the full moon, various boats & ships, lit in interesting ways, gliding past through the "windows". But it was damn cold. By the end of the night my ancient bones were becoming quite rheumatic, and I was glad of later vehicular heating. I ended up getting the very last train, meaning I wasn't home until just before midnight. By the time I'd said good-night to my lady it was well past the witching the hou,r and I quickly fell asleep with a bit of a worry about running a fever.

So apologies in advance to the winter solstice party at Piwakwaka tonight, I may hide in the corner on a bean bag and fall asleep! :)

My youngest son's birthday celebrations are tomorrow. We will probably go and see the new Hulk movie, and then have KFC for dinner. But I won't be getting up before midday, I expect.
